Private vs Public Karaoke

Mentioning karaoke to someone most likely conjures up images of run-down, half-empty pubs and bars where Oasis songs are repeatedly murdered. However in recent years there has been a massive rising trend in the number of private karaoke venues in London and across the UK - already absolutely massive in Japan and the Far East with thousands of karaoke 'boxes' across the region.

However many still associate karaoke for public karaoke, which involves paying a pound or two for the privilege of getting up in front of a group of strangers in a pub or bar and singing a rendition of your favourite song. Public karaoke is hosted by a 'KJ', or Karaoke Jockey, and their presence is usually necessary for maintaining some sort of decorum amongst the crowd. A lot of people love this form of karaoke, although it certainly doesn't appeal to everyone - it can get a bit tedious listening to strangers (badly) singing the same songs over and over again and you may have to wait quite a while before it's finally your turn to sing.

Private karaoke, on the other hand, is a very different experience. It involves renting a private room (also referred to as a karaoke box) with a group of your closest friends, family or colleagues singing along to a personally chosen playlist - so you won't get bored! In a private Karaoke bar all your friends will be taking part so there won't be one person stuck on stage feeling awkward. Private karaoke venues are perfect for special occasions such as birthday parties and stag/hen parties, and also work as fantastic corporate team-building experiences. We know which version of karaoke we'd choose!
